Forgo Tesco (nearby) and head to Stara Trznica to sniff out some local souvenirs and specialties. This revived indoor marketplace had its historic beginnings back in 1910 and today operates under its original glass dome. Small but colourful, Stara Trnica is the only proper market in the centre and focuses primarily on seasonal, locally-grown fruit, produce and flowers. Slovakian produce is of an exceptional quality: In summer don't miss the strawberries, cherries, apricots, and peaches (in that order); in September - plums and grapes. In the Old Market you'll also find specialty shops with ethnic offerings and fast food options favoured by locals. A very popular budget lunch spot.
