Sometimes, after all the aggressive mannerisms, foreign language foibles and unhelpful ticket clerks, all you really want is the touchstone of western culture. Turn off your brain and turn up at the cinema to see what kind of rubbish the film industry has been churning out during your stint abroad. Magnifying the tones of home is the fact that Istropolis is located in the midst of Polus City Centre - a gargantuan mall (Hello New Jersey!). Since opening in 2000, this multiplex has maintained its rank as Bratislava's most expensive cinema (though still less than €5 for adults). It's modern, comfy, dubbing-free (whew!) and easy to get to: take trams 2, 4 or 6, or buses 50 or 51 and you're there in 10 minutes. Check online for showtimes.
