Bratislava’s Philharmonic Under Renovation

The Reduta Theatre in Bratislava, which has been home to the Slovak Philharmonic since 1949, is currently under massive reconstruction. The building was first designed in 1911, and construction began in 1913 with grand ideas of sumptuous gold plated motifs in its interior - an idea which was eventually scrapped and replaced with lackluster decorations.

The concept with the current reconstruction, is to return Reduta to the original specifications of the building’s architects, complete with 23.8 carat gold gilded reliefs, as well as a huge organ and piano lift.

Reconstruction of the Reduta theatre is set to finish in January 2012. In the meantime, the Slovak Philharmonic has been based in the nearby Slovak National Theatre.
